Abstract

1402861 Distribution boxes EMI Ltd 9 Oct 1972 [13 Oct 1971] 47608/71 Heading H2E A junction box comprises a conductive case 7 having an aperture for receiving a coaxial cable, the aperture being enclosed by a conductive sleeve 1 having an internally tapered surface 4 tapering in diameter towards the interior of the box, a bush 11 movable axially with the sleeve and a compressible conductive ring 10. The junction box receives a large diameter coaxial cable (30, 31) from which a plurality of spur cables (32, 33) are tapped off and houses a printed circuit board (29) with terminals to which the carrier conductors of the coaxial cables are connected. The outer insulation of the cables is stripped back such that the ring 10 is compressed against the screen outer conductor to form a continuity of connection between the screen conductors and the box as the plastics bush 11 is tightened in the sleeve. The bush 11 and sleeve 1 may be interengaged by screw threads as shown or they may be formed as a push fit and secured by a grub screw. The ring 10 may be a garter spring of copper, or copper or cadmium plating. A rubber sheath (not shown) may be slid over the bush and sleeve for waterproofing. The sleeve 1 may be die cast integrally with the case 7 or secured thereto by local deformation.
