Abstract
1402451 Positive clutches SOC ANON DE VEHICULES INDUSTRIELS ET D'EQUIPEMENTS MECANIQUES 11 Aug 1972 [13 Aug 1971] 37659/72 Heading F2C The teeth of the axially slidable member 5 of a synchronized dog clutch are formed as spokes 8 adapted to engage in recesses 11 formed in friction cone members 9 secured to the adjacent pinions. The member 5 is formed with teeth 6 meshing with notches 4 in a hub member 3 keyed to the shaft on which the pinions are rotatable. A friction synchronizing ring 12, formed with friction surfaces adapted to be engaged with the corresponding surfaces of the members 9, is formed with apertures 16 which engage the spokes 8 and which have bevellededged recesses 20. Initial movement of the member 5 from its neutral position displaces a spring 18 out of engagement with an abutment 24 on the ring 12 and the relative movement between the ring 12 and the selected pinion causes the spokes 8 to move into the recesses 20 in the ring 12, Fig. 4 (not shown). On synchronization, produced by engagement of the friction surfaces of the cone members 9 and of the ring 12, the spokes 8 move out of the recesses 20 to allow movement of the ring until the spokes 8 engage in the recesses 11 in the members 9. On declutching, the spring 18 will return to the shoulder 24 to locate the member 5 in its neutral position.
