Abstract

1402262 Valves M W WOODWORTH 18 July 1972 [19 July 1971 20 Oct 1971] 33750/71 and 48667/71 Heading F2V A valve for controlling the draining of a container, e.g. an engine oil sump or radiator, has a casing adapted for threading into a drain port and a closure member slidable in the casing and movable against a spring bias to an open position by a sheathed flexible cable. In one embodiment (Fig. 1), the casing is 27-29 adapted for threading into a lateral drain port and includes a closure member in the form of a plunger 31 connected to a cable 32 extending through a sheath 33 to a control knob 36. In another embodiment, the casing is adapted as at 37 for threading into a downwardly-facing drain port, and the closure member in that case is in the form of a gate 43 movable against spring 49 by cable 46 to align port 50 with passage 38, 39. In each case, the knob or other control member is preferably associated with a mechanism for locking it in position.
