Abstract
1402042 Drying metals ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP 15 Jan 1973 2109/73 Heading C7E [Also in Division F4] Liquid is removed from non-absorbent metal articles by immersing them in a sump 2 containing a vigorously moving solvent having a different density from that of the liquid and in which the liquid is 0.001-5 wt per cent soluble, the liquid and solvent overflowing into sump 4 where they separate. The liquid is then drawn off through pipe 6, and the solvent drained off through pipes 7, 11, and drier 10, and recycled to a reservoir 9. The sump 2 is agitated by ultrasonic transducer 18. Several examples are given of suitable solvents, of liquids that can be removed, and of suitable metal articles, which articles may be held by trays, baskets or rods. Other treatments may precede or supercede the above process, which include spraying or dipping in non-agitated solvent baths.
