Abstract

1401597 Hose reels; gas exhausting device; spring drum apparatus B NEDERMANN 18 April 1973 [18 April 1972] 18777/73 Headings B8M and B8B A device for exhausting gases comprises a drum rotatably mounted in a frame, an outlet 3 coaxial with drum, connected to an extraction pump and fixed in relation to the frame, a hose wound on the drum and connected to the outlet 3 by a gas-tight joint, a spring 8 for rotating the drum to wind hose on to the drum, stops, e.g. 20 and 17, on the hose or frame for limiting the winding on of the hose, and a releasable lock for holding the drum against rotation, the releasable lock comprising spaced ratchet tooth segments 9 co-operating with a pawl 10 fixed to the frame. In operation the pawl 10 locks the drum against rotation in the winding on direction; rotation of the drum in the unwinding direction causes the pawl to ride over the ratchet teeth until it reaches a space between the segments 9. In the space between the segments the pawl is pivoted by the segment end to a position in which it rides over the teeth while the drum is rotated by the spring 8, preferably a spiral spring. When the drum is again rotated in the unwinding direction, the pawl is caused to rotate again to the operative position in which it locks the drum against rotation in the winding on direction. The drum itself may be gas-tight and the hose is, in this ease, secured to the surface of the drum in gas-tight manner. In a further embodiment, the hose passes through the drum and is secured to the outlet 3 in gas-tight manner. The stops limiting winding on of the hose may comprise a sleeve 20 on the hose co-operating with a roller 17 parallel to the drum at a distance from the surface thereof which permits passage of the hose but not of the stop 20. The device is particularly suitable for extraction of vehicle exhaust fumes, or welding gases and sparks, in which ease the connection between the hose and the outlet may comprise a filter and collection box and be made of heat-resisting material.
