Abstract

1401234 Transparent polyamides INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE 13 Oct 1972 [14 Oct 1971] 47435/72 Heading C3R [Also in Division B5] An amorphous transparent polyamide comprises a plurality of bivalent radicals derived from dicarboxylic acid(s) A(COOH) 2 and diamines R(NH 2 ) 2 where A is a direct bond or an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical and R is an aliphatic, alicyclic, araliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical, at least 25 mol per cent of the acid radicals being derived from 3-cyclohexyl adipic acid. It may also contain radicals derived from an aliphatic omega-aminocarboxylic acid or lactam. Numerous suitable diacids, diamines and amino-acids are specified. The products usually have an inherent viscosity (0À5 g./100 ml. in m-cresol at 30‹ C.) of 0À30 to 4 and a Tg. of 50‹ to 100‹ C. Acetic acid or its amine salt may be used to regulate molecular weight and stabilizers, e.g. alkyl phosphites or phosphates or Na or Mn hydrophosphite may be present during polymerization. Uses.-The polymers may be injection or compression moulded; solutions in ethanol may be used for printing inks or varnishes; and melts or solutions may be used as adhesive for wood, leather, metals (Al, Cu, steel), paper or cardboard, and especially for laminated glass. Reference is made to Specification 1,187,028.
