Abstract

1400810 Electron guns HITACHI Ltd 29 Dec 1972 [30 Dec 1971] 60124/72 Heading H1D The gun of a cathode ray tube having a fluorescent screen includes a lens system formed of at least two aligned lenses, the cross-over point a, Fig. 2, of the beam emitted from the cathode being formed by a prefocusing lens system at the focal point of the first lens L 1 , to collimate the beam parallel to the axis between the two lenses, whereby the effect of a large aperture lens is produced while avoiding the aberration which would be associated therewith. As shown, electrodes G 3 , G 4 constitute a bipotential lens, and electrodes G 4 , G 5 , and G 6 a unipotential lens, the length of G 4 being chosen greater than its diameter, and that of G 3 substantially equal to the focal length of the first lens L 1 . In further embodiments, the lens system is formed by two unipotential lenses (Fig. 3, not shown) or by two bipotential lenses (Fig. 4, not shown).
