Abstract

1400746 Enamelling steel KAWASAKI SEITETSU KK 11 Aug 1972 37669/72 Heading C1M [Also in Divisions C7 and B2] Steel which is to be enamelled exclusive of stainless steel and in the form of sheet steel or steel plate has over a surface thereof a watersoluble covering which is substantially completely formed of dry water glass. The covering, which may be 2 to 5 microns thick, reduces the risk of scratching of the steel during pressing thereof to shape and can be washed away before applying vitreous enamel, paint, Cu, Ni or Cr. Steel, other than stainless steel, may be (a) roughened, e.g. electrolytically, (b) Ni plated or phosphated, (c) coated with a solution of water glass, (d) dried to an extent such that solvent water is substantially completely removed but water of hydration is retained, (e) coated with wax, (f) pressed to shape, (g) washed to remove water glass and wax and (h) vitreous enamelled.
