Abstract

1498749 Supporting pipes H W HARRISON 2 Sept 1975 [15 Oct 1974] 08731/76 Divided out of 1498748 Heading F2P A device for sequentially gripping and releasing a pipe comprises annular mounting members 40b, 40c which are adapted for mounting on a device which can provide relative movement between said members and a cylindrical shaped strand network 40a attached to said members, said network being reducible in diameter in response to one of said members being moved away from the other and increased in diameter in response to movement of said members toward one another. As shown the member 40b is mounted on a fixed end support plate 30 and the member 40c is mounted on support plate 36 movable by piston/cylinder device 38 towards or away from plate 36. The device is used in pipe laying operations, see parent Specification.
