Abstract

1498352 Carrier particles for electrostatic developers HOECHST AG 13 April 1976 [14 April 1975 14 June 1975] 15057/76 Heading G2H [Also in Division B2] Toner carrier particles for a dry copying process are produced by using a magnetic drum separator to separate iron or iron alloy powder particles having a grain size of 10 to 250 Ám from a mixture with particles having magnetic permeabilities less than half that of iron. The separator is of the type having a rotating drum housing a stationary magnet which is adjustable in angular separation from the entry point of the mixture in the range 20 degrees to 50 degrees and the surface acceleration of the drum is from 15 to 60 m/sec<SP>2</SP>. The powder is fed to the separator at a rate less than a tenth of that necessary to form a single particle layer over the cylindrical surface of the drum. After separation the iron particles are demagnetized. The particles can be iron alloy including, by weight, 0À1% to 18% Si, from 0À05% to 0À85% C, from 0À1% to 2% Mn, from 0À01% to 0À2% A1, from 0À01% to 0À15% P, and from 0À01% to 0À05% S.
