Abstract

1498243 Screw press SIMON-ROSEDOWNS Ltd 16 July 1976 [26 July 1975] 31350/75 Heading BID A twin-screw press for drying rye grass or lucerne has its helical flights overlapping and decreasing in pitch towards the discharge end (left), and the flights carry protuberances on their sides facing the discharge end which assist pressing by breaking up cell walls. The screws rotate in opposite directions within a cage, which may be of perforate sheet 14 reinforced by an external frame 15 or may comprise spaced axial bars. As shown the protuberences are formed by cutting notches 20 in the flights and bending the trailing edges (relative to screw rotation) towards the discharge end. Alternatively small parts may be welded to the flights or bolts screwed into tapped holes therein so that their heads protrude. Protuberences may be larger and more closely spaced nearer the inlet end of the press and may be provided along twothirds of the length of the screws.
