Abstract

1498024 Latches GENERAL MOTORS Ltd 30 Oct 1975 [14 Nov 1974] 49271/74 Heading E2A A latch comprises a frame member 14, a cover plate 16 and a non-metallic (e.g. polypropylene) shroud 18 sandwiched between them. The shroud is appropriately apertured. and recessed to accommodate a forked latchbolt 26, pivotably mounted by pivot-pin 22 on frame 14, a detent member 26, mounted on second pivot 30, and a detent operating member 34 also mounted on second pivot 30 to be co-rotatable with the detent member 26. The bolt 20 and the detent member 26 are accommodated in recess 102 on one side of the shroud, recess 42 on the other side accepts detent operator 36. Recess 88 is cut in the shroud to allow a headed striker pin to contact bolt 20, this recess is divided from recess 24 by a flexible strip 96. Resilient buffer 98 fits into aperture 24, surrounding pivot pin 22, and has the effect of bracing strip 96 against the impact of the head of the striker pin. The shroud 18 isolates the detent member 26 and the bolt 22 from the other components of the latch.
