Abstract

1498006 Blow moulding GPG HOLDINGS Ltd 27 March 1975 [2 Jan 1974] 00153/74 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] A thermoplastics container drum is blowmoulded and provided with two co-axial openings to which closures 7 are fitted. A tubular parison 1 is extruded until it engages a shoulder 9 on a hollow spigot 1a, the mould 2, 3 is closed and blowing air is introduced through the spigot la. The closed end 5 is cut from the tubular portion 4 and injection moulded end caps 7 having corrugated skirt portions 8 are snap-fitted into corresponding parts 4a of the tubular portion 4. Both ends may be cut off when a smaller spigot 1a without a shoulder is used (Figs. 1-3, not shown). The end caps may alternatively be secured by heat, solvent or spin welding, by adhesive, or by screw threads. Thermoplastic retaining rings may be fitted over the junctions of the caps and the tubular portion and welded thereto.
