Abstract

1498099 Lemon slicing machine LEMONAID Ltd 23 Aug 1976 [6 Nov 1975] 46033/75 Heading A4C A slicing machine, e.g. for halved lemons, consists of a cassette 10 of semi-cylindrical shape and adapted to be rotated by location in a holder 5 rotated by an electric motor 20 via gearing 21 and belts 22, 23, the motor also rotating a blade 9 so that as the cassette is rotated the thickness of a lemon projecting beneath the open bottom end of the cassette is sliced off by the blade and falls through an opening 25 in a bottom tray 4. The machine may be operated continuously using a switch 26 or intermittently using a pivoted lever 6 which when momentarily contacted by a receptacle below opening 25 to receive a slice will pivot and cause its end 29 to close a micro-switch 30. This causes the holder 5 to rotate sufficiently to close a second micro-switch 31 which will energize the motor so that the cassette completes a single revolution, switch 31 co-operating in this respect with a cam 32 on holder 5. The cassette is held in holder 5 by a projection 18 on the former engaging a slot 17 in the latter. The slice thickness is determined by the position of a gauge plate 8 and a weight 24 forces the lemon halves downwards through the cassette. The motor may have an electromagnetic brake and a thermal cut-out.
