Abstract

1497963 Discharging molten materials NIPPON ASBESTOS CO Ltd 28 Jan 1976 [28 Jan 1975] 03241/76 Heading F4B The tapping device of a melting furnace comprises a metal nozzle sealed by solidified melt 8 to a lower cooling block 3 having a first passageway 4 to which coolant water is supplied and removed by pipes 41, 42 and a further passageway 5 for an inert gas which passes through apertures 51 in the inner wall of the block to its interior space. The block is also sealed to the refractory material of the furnace bed 6 by melt 8 solidified by the cooling effect of the block, the melt 9 in the furnace passing downwardly through a tapping port 2 in the nozzle, cooling block and an aperture in the bed by gravity in the form of a thin stream 90.
