Abstract

1496924 Aerating liquids GENERAL SIGNAL CORP 28 Feb 1975 [29 March 1974] 8577/75 Heading B1C An apparatus for dispersing a gas in a liquid as in the oxidation of waste water comprises means for circulating the liquid in a tank comprising a rotatable immersed disc having downwardly extending blades and means for introducing the gas away from the suction zone created by the blades so that the latter work in liquid only. As described the circulating means is a rotary impeller comprising a disc 28 having on its underside curved blades 32 and the gas may be introduced through a sparge ring 40'. Preferably as shown the gas is introduced within an annular volume V having an inner diameter not less than the diameter of the blades D t and an outer diameter not greater than 1.5 D t , and a depth b which is approximately the height of the blades. The sparge ring may have a partition 46 and two rings of apertures 42', 44' which lie at the mid-level of the blades; either or both rings of apertures may be used or they may be used to introduce more than one gas. The apertures may be replaced by slots.
