Abstract

The screw ram (2) of the injection moulding machine is moved during the filling phase with controlled velocity by means of a hydraulic piston (6). The hydraulic pressure resulting in the cylinder space (10) is a measure for the viscosity of the melt. This actual value is compared with a setpoint value in a controller (13) and the deviation is used to correct the back pressure for the succeeding operating cycle. The viscosity of the melt can thereby be accurately and rapidly controlled, increasing the quality of the injection moulded parts. <IMAGE>
