Abstract

1496112 PVC/PVA films WACKERCHEMIE GmbH 24 Feb 1976 [27 March 1975] 07213/76 Heading B5B A process for forming a film comprises extruding a dry mixture of a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer having a vinyl acetate of from 31-50% by weight (based on the copolymer) and a K value of from 40-70 (as determined by DIN 53 726) and a solid heat stabilizer at a temperature of from 110-180‹ C. The stabilizer may be present in an amount of from 0À5-5% by weight of the copolymer. Many standard heat stabilizers are given. Solid antioxidants, lubricants (0À1-3% by wt.) and fillers (not more than 10% by wt. and of particle size 0À01-5 Ám) may be employed and many standard examples are given. The film may possess a degree of heat shrinkage of from 20-40% in the transverse and/or longitudinal direction and may have a thickness of from 10-100 Ám. The copolymer may be formed by suspension polymerization in an aqueous medium and subsequently dried by spray or roll drying.
