1493484 Vehicle headlamps CIBIE PROJECTEURS 11 Feb 1975 [12 Feb 1974] 5774/75 Heading F4R A headlamp, e.g. a fog lamp or long-range driving lamp for a motor vehicle, comprises a sealed beam unit 20 formed by a parabolic reflector 24, a lamp 26 and a front lens 30 sealed to the reflector opening, the unit 20 being held in a shell 18 by a headlamp ring 22 surrounding the lens periphery and being sealed to the shell 18 by an interposed annular gasket 48 and the electrical supply connectors for the lamp being sealed through the shell 18. The shell 18 may be formed as an open casing of plastics material, the opening edge 34 of which is split to define two annular lips 36, 38 which engage respectively the headlamp ring 22 and the L-shaped gasket 48 disposed at the annular flanged edge 32 of the reflector. The headlamp ring 22 is fixed to the shell 18 by screws 23, for example. An opaque mask 44 may be fitted over the front of the lens 30. The conductors sealed through the rear wall 49 of the shell 18 may be rivets or eyelets 50 attached to lamp leads 52 and external contacts 64. The rear of the shell may be provided with a recess 54 to mount the headlamp on a tongue 56 of a support 12 adjustably connected by a swivel joint 14 to a member 16 fixed to the vehicle. The tongue 56 may be detachably retained in the recess 54 by co-operating projection 58 and depression 60. The lamp connectors may extend insulated from each other through the tongue, spring blades 62 being provided, secured to the eyelets 50, to effect the releasable connection.
