Abstract

1492752 Deformable energy absorbing devices J A SEARLE and M C NASON 5 June 1975 [12 March 1974] 10927/74 Heading F2E An energy-absorbing device comprises a holder tube 1 containing one or more energyabsorbing tubes 2 arranged transversely within the holder tube. As shown in Fig. 3, the axes of the energyabsorbing tubes 2 are parallel and the holder tube 1 is of rectangular cross-section. In Fig. 1 (not shown), a single row of such energy-absorbing tubes but of larger cross-section is similarly located in a holder tube; Fig. 5 (not shown), resembles Fig. 1, but each energy-absorbing tube contains a smaller-section tube concentrically within it; Fig. 4 (not shown), resembles Fig. 1, but the energy absorbing tubes are of smaller cross-section and are surrounded by a foam material (which may also fill the tubes). In Fig. 6 (not shown), the energy absorbing tubes each have one end spaced from one and the same wall of the holder tube. Fig. 2 shows a further arrangement.
