Abstract
1491866 Cleaning cell membrane BOC INTERNATIONAL Ltd 28 Nov 1974 [28 Nov 1973] 55226/73 Heading G1N A membrane cell for measuring dissolved oxygen is associated with means for cleaning the outside of the membrane the means being operated intermittently. The cleaning device may be one or more brushes or one or more members with an elastomeric wiping surface and may be operated manually, pneumatically, hydraulically or by an electric motor and optionally under automatic control. As shown, three angularly spaced brushes 20, 21 (not shown), and 22 are rotated round the outside of membrane 16 by motor 30. The membrane is PTFE fibre, the electrodes Ag and Pb and the cell is used to control oxygen gas supply to sewage treatment plant. The cleansing is preferably for periods of less than five minutes at intervals between 1 minute and 24 hours. Cleaning may also be accomplished by lifting the cell clear of the liquid and spraying with liquid or gas.
