Abstract

1491731 Winding webs SANDOZ Ltd 3 Feb 1975 [5 Feb 1974 17 Dec 1974] 05174/74 and 54384/74 Heading B8R [Also in Divisions D1 and G3] A fabric is wound on to a hollow permeable core, whilst passing a fluid radially through the windings on the core and the winding is terminated when a predetermined fluid pressure is attained so that the windings have a predetermined radial fluid permeability. The fluid may pass outwardly or inwardly through the windings. As shown, the fabric is wound on beam 6 and the size of the windings and the fluid pressure in the permeable core are sensed electrically and fed to a data processing unit D. The permeability of the windings for the size of the windings is computed, compared with a predetermined permeability and the tension of the fabric being wound is varied by braking rolls 13a and 13b to keep the permeability of the windings within prescribed limits. Winding is terminated when predetermined limits of size and permeability have been reached. In an alternative embodiment a gas bottle is connected via a visual display manometer and a valve to the bobbin. The bobbin is rotatably mounted in gas-tight holders. When a predetermined pressure is recorded at the manometer the winding is terminated.
