Abstract

1491638 Sliver coiling and severing OM Ltd 10 March 1976 [29 May 1975] 09574/7f Heading D1F Sliver S is packed into (rotating) can I by a guide tube 11 which is caused to swing about pivot 9, the guide tube having a reserve plate 15 pivoted at 18 and movable from an almost horizontal position at which the sliver is gripped between the plate and stop 22 and an almost vertical position, Fig. 2, a positively drivable severing roller 23 and a nip roller 27 mounted on a pivoted support plate 25. With plate 15 and nip roller 27 in the positions shown in Fig. 2 sliver supplied by conveyor 5 is coiled in can 1. When the can is full pneumatic cylinder 20 is activated to raise plate 15 to the horizontal position to grip the sliver. Roller 23 is driven and cylinder 29 is activated to move roller 27 so as to press the sliver against roller 27. The sliver is thus severed. Preferably the distance between the two sliver gripping points A, B is greater than the fibre length. Even sliver crimped e.g. in stuffer box (8, Fig. 1, not shown) is reliably severed. The can is replaced by an empty can and nip roller 27 and reserve plate 15 are then swung back so that the sliver which has accumulated on the reserve plate falls into the empty can. Control means may be provided for automatically activating in sequence the drive for severing roller 23 and pneumatic cylinders 20 and 29.
