Abstract

1491286 Detecting faults in radiating cables STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 19 June 1975 26101/75 Heading H2K A method of monitoring a radiating cable 10, Fig. 1, carrying a frequency f, comprises feeding the cable at a point 12 adjacent the transmitter 11, with a monitoring signal at a different frequency f 1 , placing at a distance x from the transmitter, an electrical load R L1 which is tuned to the frequency f 1 , measuring the voltage applied to the cable at frequency f 1 and detecting any change in the applied voltage on a level detector 18. The cable is fed with the frequency f, via a Tee-junction 12 which incorporates a filter for the monitoring frequency f 1 . The load R L1 is connected to the cable 10 via a filter 15 and inductive and capacitive couplings 20, 22. There may be several monitoring frequencies f 1 , f 2 feeding the cable with corresponding tuned loads at x and y.
