1490748 Calendering paper KLEINEWEFERS INDUSTRIE-COMPANIE GmbH 3 Jan 1975 [5 March 1974] 235/75 Heading D2A A paper calender of the type in which the rolls 2-10 are journalled in supports 12 mounted on upright spindles 14 one at each side of the calender and in which the rolls can be separated by movement of nuts 18 on the spindles relative to the supports 12, is provided with a bush 19 underlying each support-other than the top and bottom roll supports-and overlying the adjacent nut 18 such that the bush and support engage when the nut is moved, the support-engaging surface 22, 23 of the bush and/or the bushengaging surface 16, 17 of the support being stepped such that by rotating the bushes the size of the roll gap(s) on roll separation can be changed. The bushes are preferably longitudinally movable but keyed on the spindles and means such as a piston/cylinder arrangement 27 and levers 28, 33, 34 are provided to rotate the spindles and therewith the bushes. As shown each bush 19 has stepped surfaces 22, 23 of 210‹ and 150‹ angular extent, the forked ends 13 of the supports 12 having similarly extending stepped surfaces 16, 17, and the spindles are rotatable through 150‹ to provide either small or large roll gaps. The nuts 18 can be moved relative to the supports 12 either by raising the spindles or by lowering the bottom roll.
