Abstract

1490545 Solar heaters A A BLANCO 20 Dec 1974 [24 July 1974] 32592/74 Heading F4U A solar heating panel assembly comprises a sheet metal member 12 having a matt black radiation absorbent surface 13, conduits 15 for water soldered the member and connected to manifolds 16, a rectangular surround 17, a transparent or translucent front sheet 18, e.g. glass, a corrugated backing 19 and thermal insulation 20. The surround 17 comprises four extruded aluminium side members, each defining a main channel between a flange 23 and a rebate 25, a secondary channel 24 for the backing 19 between flanges 22, 23 and the rebate 25 which is adapted to receive the sheet 18. The manifolds 16 are held in place in the main channel by locators 28. The backing 19 may comprise several sheets of corrugated plastics material overlapping one another. The thermal insulation 20 is in the form of a layer of foamed polystyrene board 30 and a layer of glass fibre wool 31.
