Abstract

1490285 Power-assisted brakes DAIMLER-BENZ AG 5 March 1975 [12 March 1974] 9174/75 Heading F2F A power-assistance arrangement for a vehicle brake system or clutch system has an hydraulic pressure booster system 12 provided between the pedal 10 and master cylinder 11, a first part of the system being abutted against the pedal and including a piston 17 and a second part including a rod 16 being connected to the master cylinder. The application of pressure is subject to sequence control by means of a control element 21 connected to the pedal. When pedal 10 is slightly depressed the valve piston of element 21 is moved through linkage 23 to a position indicated by a to connect lines 27, 28 of system 12 to a supply line 13 and return line 14 respectively, pressure on piston 17 causing the entire housing 15 and therefore piston-rod 16 and the master cylinder piston to move to actuate the brake. As pedal 10 is held in its position housing 15 is displaced relatively to the piston of element 21 until the midposition is regained and equilibrium attained. If pedal 10 is released the connections between the lines are reversed and pressure is relieved in the master cylinder 11. In a modification, Fig. 2, having automatic control there is provided a second control element 35 in parallel with element 21 and controlled by pressure pulses in lines 34a, 34b. These pulses are generated by an electromagnetic valve 29, automatic brake application signals being introduced on line 30a and automatic brake release signals being introduced on line 30b. Operation of the foot pedal overrides the automatic control by switch 43 which moves valve 40 to the right so that the foot-operated valve 21 is connected in circuit with the booster 12.
