Abstract

1490041 Electrical connector AMP Inc 25 Feb 1976 7334/76 Heading H2E A connector, for providing bridging connections between conductors on opposed parallel substrates 4 and 11, comprises a contact structure 9, as in Fig. 4, in which spring contacts such as 18 extend side by side across an insulating sheet 19, of polymeric or such material, the contacts being bent to form the structure into a channel section the free edges of which provide means for mounting the structure on a locating member or frame such as 1. The channel section is in the form of a parallelepiped as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the acute angle ridges providing the contacts and the free edges being held in grooves in a bead formed on the outside edges of a locating frame 1. Instead of being on the outside of the frame the contact structure can be located on the inside edges (Fig. 3, not shown). In the construction of Figs. 5, 6, 7, (not shown), the contact structure is a hexagonal channel section clipped on to beads on either side of a central bar of a locating frame; opposed apices of each structure providing contacts and the structures compressing flexibly between the substrates. The contact structures of Figs. 8, 9, 10, 11 (not shown), are also of hexagonal channel section but the free edges are bent inwardly into hairpin sections which provide resilient contact pressure when compressed between each substrate and the opposed surface of an I-section beam on which the contact structure is mounted.
