Abstract
1489938 Catheters RHONE-POULENC SA 30 Dec 1974 [3 Jan 1974] 56043/74 Heading A5R A catheter assembly comprises a catheter having an elastic bulge adjacent its closed distal end and a mandrel 6 inserted into the catheter and engaging the distal end thereof, there being at the proximal end of the assembly at least one latching member releasably interconnecting the proximal ends of the catheter and mandrel whereby the mandrel can be retained in a position such that the bulge is maintained in flat condition, the bulge reappearing when the latching member(s) is/are released. The mandrel may be connected to a bearing member 1 having two latching members 2, 3 each having a jaw 4, 5 at one end thereof for engagement over a bead 8 on the catheter. In a modification the member 1 is located at the ends of the locking members remote from the jaws and an insert may be positioned between the latching members to serve as a fulcrum. The insert may be slidable along the latching members. In a further modification the latching member 30 is generally U-shaped and formed integrally with the enlarged proximal end 7 of the catheter, the mandrel engaging in a hole in the latching member. The latching member may also be provided by a flexible strip (Fig. 10 not shown) secured at one end to the catheter and having at its other end an opening engageable over a projection on the catheter, the mandrel engaging in an aperture provided intermediate the ends of the strip. In a further form, (Fig. 9 not shown), the latching member comprises a pair of arms each pivoted at one end to the catheter and joined to a bridge piece having a seat to receive the proximal end of the mandrel.
