Abstract

1489947 Concrete or mortar composition DOW CHEMICAL CO 2 June 1975 [3 June 1974] 23830/75 Heading ClH A concrete or mortar composition comprises an expansive Portland cement, mineral aggregate, 5-25% based on the weight of the cement of a styrene-butadiene-1,3 copolymer having a styrene : butadiene weight ratio of 30 : 70 to 70 : 30, 25-65% water based on the weight of cement, and, based on the weight of the copolymer, (a) 2-10% nonionic surfactant, (b) 0À75 to 7À5% anionic surfactant, at least 15% of which is sodium C 7-19 alkyl sulphate, and (c) 0À1 to 5% polyorganosiloxane foam depressant; the sum of (a) and (b) not exceeding 11% and the ratio of (a) to (b) being 0À7 : 1 to 10 : 1, the composition further containing reinforcement to restrain expansion. The reinforcement may be glass fibres, steel fibres, wire mesh or steel rods with plates bolted to their ends. Non- ionic surfactants include fatty acid ester, acid derivatives of ethylene oxide products, condensation products of ethylene oxide with alcohols, phenols, naphthols or alkylphenols. Anionic surfactants include alkyl aryl sulphonates, sulphates of higher fatty alcohols, sulphonated animal and vegetable oils and sulphonated acylic hydrocarbons. Other polymers e.g. vinylidene chloride polymer latexes, may be present.
