Abstract
1489854 Sizing paper NATIONAL STARCH & CHEMICAL CORP 21 April 1976 16224/76 Addition to 1409830 Heading D2B A method of internally sizing paper and board comprises adding to the wet pulp prior to sheet formation one or more sizing agents of the formula wherein R x and R y are each an alkyl radical containing at least 5 carbon atoms. The sizing agent may be used in combination with pigments, fillers and cationic agents such as alum, aluminium chloride long chain fatty amines having at least 8C atoms in the chain, cationic starches, cationic polyacrylamides, cationic polyamides, animal glue, chromic sulphate, sodium aluminate, and cationic thermosetting resins. The sizing agent may be added in the form of an aqueous emulsion which may include hydrocolloids and surfactants. The pulp may comprise natural or regenerated cellulosic fibres, polyamide, polyester, acrylic and mineral fibres e.g. asbestos and glass fibres.
