Abstract
1489185 Displacement transducers DOWTY BOULTON PAUL Ltd 30 Jan 1975 [9 Nov 1973] 52056/73 Heading G1N (A) [Also in Division H1] A transducer comprises a tubular former 1, a ferromagnetic armature 23 sliding within it, a pair of secondary windings 9, 11 of anodized aluminium wire, and a primary winding also of anodized aluminium wire comprising first parts 7, 8 and second parts 12, 13, the second parts contributing a predetermined resistance to the primary winding but little or no inductance to provide temperature compensation. The former 1, spacing washers 2, 3, 4 and end members 5, 6 are of titanium alloy coated with ceramic insulation. The armature 23 is of an alloy of 50% cobalt, 50% iron, or one of 45% nickel, 5% copper, and 50% iron and is carried by a non-magnetic rod 24. Parts 7, 8, 12, 13 of the primary winding are connected in series and connections 17 passing through insulated passages 14 are brazed to metallic conductors 18 which are secured by glass seals 19 in sealing member 16. From contacts 21 leads to an electrical supply enter a metallic tube 22 secured in end cover 25. An outer tubular cover 15 of titanium alloy is welded to members 6 and 16 hermetically sealing the windings. The second parts of the primary winding may alternatively be disposed between the former and the secondary windings.
