Abstract

1485752 Container traffic container locating and transfer elevators SCIDS Ltd 17 Sept 1974 [19 June 1973] 28949/73 Headings B8Q and B8L Lifting apparatus mounted on a vehicle to facilitate loading and unloading a container comprises a platform 3 fixed on a chassis 30 and a container support platform 2 connected thereto by pivoted arms 6 with inflatable air bags 4 interposed to provide the lifting force. The bags 4 may be inflated from the storage reservoir 13, Fig. 2, of the air braking system or through a tapping 29 connectible to a separate compressed air supply. The vehicle has locating pyramids 11 which co-operate with corresponding locative sockets in the base of a container so that it is self locating as it is lowered on to the platform 1. The container has supporting legs such as 19, Fig. 4, which may be telescopic, pivotable from a stowed horizontal position in which they are held by pins 28 to a vertical supporting position in which on pulling out the legs they are located by a square portion 21 engaging plates 25 in which position they are held by a gravity catch 27.
