Abstract

1485297 Driving I C engine fuel-injection pumps DAIMLER-BENZ AG 29 Nov 1974 [7 Dec 1973] 51862/74 Heading F1B In a reciprocating-piston in-line engine having its valve and fuel-injection timing gear located at the flywheel-end in a housing 2, provision is made for mounting the fuel-injection pump 11 in alternative positions depending on the orientation and location of the engine in a vehicle so that it is accessible for maintenance. If the engine is to be mounted under the floor of the vehicle with its cylinders horizontal, then the pump 11 is mounted in the position shown and is driven by the injectiontiming gear-wheel 9 via at least one idler gear-wheel 13. If the engine is mounted with its cylinders vertical and/or at the rear of the vehicle, then the pump 11 is mounted in a different position with its axis 10 located at 10' and is driven directly by the gear-wheel 9.
