Abstract
1485007 Settling and filtering liquids PATERSON CANDY INTERNATIONAL Ltd 8 July 1975 [31 May 1974] 24344/74 Heading BID A liquid clarifier comprises a tank containing a parallel inclined plate separator and a granular filter downstream thereof. In Fig. 1 the liquid from inlet 1 is passed downwardly through the inclined channels defined by plates 2. The partially clarified liquid is deflected by baffles 7 (Fig. 3) in the channels through openings 6 into chamber 13 where it flows downwardly through sand filter 14. Sludge is discharged from the channels into tray 10 and removed therefrom by reciprocating scraper 11 into bay 12 from which it is periodically discharged through a valve (not shown). In Fig. 4 (not shown) the liquid is passed downwardly through the channels and the partially clarified liquid is passed upwardly through ducts in the channels to a common duct which discharges the partially clarified liquid onto the filter.
