1484461 Ceramic packing for gas/liquid contact; distillation FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd 10 Jan 1975 [31 Jan 1974] 04495/74 Headings B1F B1L and B1R Apparatus for gas/liquid contact e.g. fractional distillation or absorption, comprises a chamber through which a gas and liquid may flow, e.g. in countercurrent, and packing in the chamber in the form of a continuous body of foam structured porous ceramic material through which all of the gas and liquid flowing through the chamber passes. The packing may be an integral monolith or consist of sheets extending across the whole width of the chamber column, and may be of an essentially reticular structure with totally open cells and may consist almost wholly of strands of ceramic material of diameter 1.5 mm or less and of length 5 mm or less.
