1483071 Wells &c DRESSER INDUSTRIES INC 19 Sept 1974 [2 Nov 1973] 40880/74 Heading E1F A well tool anchor slip for anchoring a well tool, e.g. a packer in the casing of a well, consists of a generally cylindrical tubular member (Fig. 6) having a dual axis bore passage 43, 44 therethrough to permit the slip to be placed over a well tool and to be tilted between the limits defined by axes X and Y, i.e. between positions in which the slip engages the casing and is clear of the casing, the slip having sets of gripping teeth with a curved boundary profile at opposite ends and sides of the slip, one end of the slip having a shoulder 52 and a canted surface leading away from the shoulder 52 and the other end 51 of the slip having a flat surface 51a extending across one half of the slip and a curved surface 51b extending across the other half. The curved surface 51b has a radius of curvature R equal to half the length of the slip. The slip is set in the casing by relative movement between a pair of abutments carried by the tool, one of the abutments engaging surface 51 and the other engaging shoulder 52, thus causing the slip to be tilted about pivot axis C. The slip is unseated from the casing by opposite movement of the abutments, the slip being tilted back to its original position by spring 48a (Fig. 3A) engaging bore 49c in the slip or by a spring loaded member (not shown) engaging surface 46a of the slip. The slip may be used in a dual string packer of the type described in Specification 1483072. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 1265868 and 1395014.
