Abstract

1482515 Polymerizing water-soluble monomers ALLIED COLLOIDS Ltd 24 July 1974 [24 April 1973] 19434/73 Heading C3P Water-soluble monomers are polymerized by continuously adding an aqueous solution thereof to a heated system comprising oil, water-in-oil emulsifier, initiator and a suspension stabilizer being a copolymer of at least one hydrophobic monomer with at least one hydrophilic monomer. Stabilizers exemplified are copolymers of dimethylaminoethyl and stearyl methacrylates, ditertiarybutylamino ethyl and stearyl methacrylates, acrylamide and stearyl methacrylate. They are used in the polymerization of methyl chloride quaternized dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or acrylamide.
