Abstract

1482102 Acoustic imaging devices; holograms XEROX CORP 22 Oct 1974 [26 Oct 1973] 45569/74 Heading G1G [Also in Divisions G2 and G5] An acousto-optic imaging device comprises a Piezo-electric layer 104, photo-conductor layer 16, an electrical mesh 106 between buffer layers 108 110, and an electro-optic layer 112. The mesh 106 provide electrical isolation between layers on either side thereof. In use the layer 16 is uniformly illuminated and layer 104 is subjected to the acoustic wave pattern, whereby an acoustic imagewise pattern of charge carriers is moved from layer 16 to the edge of layer 112 under the influence of voltages V A and V C . A visible representation of an acoustic hologram may be obtained by superimposing on Vc an A.C. voltage V B of the reference acoustic frequency. The above device is one embodiment of an electro-optical device, see G2F.
