Abstract

1481911 Rotary positive-displacement fluid-machines TRW Inc 5 March 1975 [22 March 1974] 9203/75 Heading F1F In a gerotor-type hydraulic motor, or pump, leakage from the spaces between the stator 21 and rotor 22 to outlet, or inlet, bores 52, 53 in a power output, or input, shaft 15 is minimized by provision of an annular seal 100 in a side face 104 of the rotor. As shown in Fig. 2 the seal gives fluid in the said spaces access to the face 104 so that the rotor is pressed against a non-rotating plate 49. Another non-rotating plate 44, upon which the seal bears, may contain passages 56 extending between the said spaces and a flowcontrolling valve-plate 47, which is rotated in a planetary manner by a "wobble shaft" 33 interconnecting the rotor and shaft 15. Low-pressure working-fluid flows from, or to, the plate 47 by way of bores 50, 51, the high-pressure working- fluid being supplied, or discharged, through an annular passageway 26 beneath a cylindrical casing 12. To reduce wear the seal may be made of polyethylene having a molecular weight of 2.8 x 10<SP>6</SP>. Alternatively, an annular seal 236 is lodged in the inner one of two plates 212, 214 in place of the plate 49, an annular groove 224 in the inner plate being connected to the annular passageway 26a by a radial passage 228. The pressure transmitted to the outer side-face of the plate 214 from the passageway 26a forces the plates apart and the rotor against the plate 44a.
