Abstract

1481650 Preparing an attenuated cell-free varicella virus MERCK & CO INC 6 May 1975 18978/75 Heading A5B A method of preparing a live attenuated, cell-free varicella virus useful as an antigen in a vaccine comprises serially passaging the virulent virus at 30‹-38‹C in a tissue culture preparation selected from human and animal diploid cell strains and primary cells of simian origin a sufficient number of times to attenuate the virus followed by release of the attenuated virus from the infected cell by sonication in the presence of a stabiliser comprising sucrose, albumin and phosphate together with glutamine, glutamic acid or a salt of glutamic acid.
