Abstract
1481037 Oxidation of crankcase gases U O P Ltd 31 Oct 1974 47144/74 Heading B1F A process for operating an internal combustion engine wherein crankcase gases are recirculated to a fuel intake system of the engine to reduce the emission of pollutants includes the steps of passing at least a portion of the crankcase gases over an oxidation catalyst in a confined reactor, the catalyst being in heat exchange relationship with an exhaust gas outlet conduit from the engine, and oxidation of combustible components in the crankcase gases being effected in the confined reactor, and passing resultant effluent gases containing CO 2 and water vapour into the fuel intake system of the engine. Thus in Fig. 2 crankcase gases together possibly with a portion of exhaust gas are returned to the carburettor of an I.C. engine via 11 after passing from 9 through an oxidation catalyst 12 which is in heat exchange with the exhaust manifold 3.
