Abstract
1480526 Blood oxygenator BAXTER TRAVENOL LABORATORIES Inc 19 Nov 1974 [21 Jan 1974] 50156/74 Heading B1X A support for a blood oxygenator comprises holding means 12 for removably holding a membrane oxygenator unit 14, means 24, 32 for conveying blood from a patient through the oxygenator unit in a first flow path and back to the patient, means 48 for conveying oxygen gas through the oxygenator unit in a second flow path separated from the first flow path by a semipermeable membrane, and safety means 66 for preventing the pressure of oxygen from reaching a level sufficient to cause gas bubbles to pass through the membrane and to enter the first flow path, the holding means including a plate 42 for engagement with the membrane oxygenator unit, an inlet manifold part 44 in the plate positioned to communicate with the inlet of the second flow path in the oxygenator unit, with the latter mounted in the removable holding means, to provide a sealed oxygen flow path through the plate into the oxygenator unit, and in which the inlet manifold port also communicates with a conduit for providing gas pressure communication between the second flow path and the safety means.
