Abstract

1480182 Riser cracking of gas oil MOBIL OIL CO 13 March 1975 [2 April 1974] 10539/75 Heading C5E Gas oil is converted to gasoline and fuel oil by cracking in a riser 8 in which a cracking catalyst suspended in a hydrocarbon phase is passed upwardly under decreasing temperature and catalyst activity conditions; the lower portion of the riser is fed with a heavy cycle oil product 32 of the conversion, the fresh gas oil feed 2 is added to an upper portion of the riser, and the conversion products are separated at 16 to provide light fuel oil 38, naphtha 36 and the heavy cycle oil 32 which is recycled to the lower portion of the riser. The catalyst can be a rare-earth exchanged zeolite Y, e.g. in a silica clay + zirconia matrix, or an amorphous silicaalumina. The fresh gas oil is preferaly added at a level at which the catalyst contains 0À5- 1À2 wt. per cent of deposited carbon and has a fluid activity index of 20-40. The residence time of the fresh gas oil in the riser is suitably 1-4 seconds at 800-900‹ F. and the contact time of the heavy cycle oil and catalyst before the dilution with the fresh gas oil can be 4-8 seconds at 900-1000‹ F. The catalyst separated from the riser at 10 is stripped with steam in the annular chamber 18 and regenerated at 24 by oxidation with air.
