Abstract

1479635 Container carrier INTERNATIONAL PAPER CO 1 July 1974 [2 July 1973] 29086/74 Heading A4G [Also in Division B8] A container carrier comprises two connected portions each formed from a rectangular blank 14, Fig. 2, having a plurality of score lines and comprising in its erected container carrying condition, a vertically extending handle section 40, or 42 Fig. 5, a first panel e.g. 36 or 46 extending outwardly from the handle section and pivotable relative thereto, a second transverse panel e.g. 32 or 48 extending inwardly from the panel 36 or 46 and pivotable relative thereto, and a container separator section 30 or 54, adjacent the panel 32 or 48 and extending vertically downwards therefrom and pivotable relative thereto. Each panel 36, 32, 46, 49, has an opening 38, 34, 50, 52, which when the panels are horizontal are in register to receive the body of a container 12, and which, when the handle section is raised in the direction of arrow 68 to move the panels to the relatively inclined positions shown, are displaced so that their edges grip the container walls. The handle sections 40, 42 are in face to face relationship as are the separator sections 30, 54. In one embodiment, Figs. 2 and 5, the carrier is formed by folding a blank e.g. of paper board or corrugated container board 14 about score line 22 and adhering or stapling together sections 40, 42 and 30, 54. Transverse panels at each side of the carrier have openings 34, 38, 50, 52 to permit six bottles to be carried. The edges of the openings may be coated with friction increasing material. In alternative embodiments the openings are surrounded by container engaging flaps, and/or are rectangular. The blank may be of laminated construction and a vertical panel may be provided between and joining the outer edges of the transverse panels 32, 36 and 46, 48.
