1479608 Amino acids and nitriles FUJISAWA PHARMACEUTICAL CO Ltd 5 July 1974 [6 July 1973 13 Aug 1973 26 Jan 1974 7 Feb 1974 8 Feb 1974] 30023/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the formula where R 1 is H or OH, R 2 is C 1 -C 8 alkyl, R 3 is H or C 1 -C 8 alkanesulphonyl and Y is -SO 2 - or -NNSO 2 -, provided that R 3 is H when Y is -NHSO 2 -, and derivatives on the carboxy group and/or the α-amino group, and compounds of the formula The compounds of Formula VI may be prepared by reacting a compound of the formula with hydrogen cyanide. The compounds of Formula I may be obtained by hydrolysing compounds of Formula VI or by reacting a compound of the formula in a free or protected form on the carboxyl group and/or the α-amino group with a compound of the formula R 2 -Y-Z where Z is the residue of an acid.
