The width d i is at least D(1+ #3/2) where D is the diameter of the bottles and over a collection section SB1 the width reduces to about 1À7D, the angle between the rails S1, S2 over the section SB1 being designated by α and the surfaces of the guide rails S1, S2 have a coefficient of friction Á relative to the bottles F which is less than tan(15‹-α/2). Preferably α is between 3‹ and 6‹ and Á is less than 0À2. Each guide rail S1, S2 may be of steel bolstered by a suitable plastic material, such as ultra high molecular polyethylene.
