Abstract
1478658 Continuous electro-plating USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 13 June 1974 [13 June 1973] 26323/74 Heading C7B A metal strip e.g. of Fe is continuously electroplated with a metallic coating e.g. of Cr of uniform weight by passing it through a plating electrolyte in parallel relation to an anode of configuration composed of tandemly aligned fractions: at least one generally rectangular, or square, face of width Wa substantially equal to the strip width and, total, length from 1/3 to 2/3 of the total anode length L, and at least one varying width face of corresponding length 2/3 to 1/3 of L and width decreasing progressively from width Wa to Wb, preferably approximately equal to, e.g. 0À9 to 1À1 of the predetermined width of uniform coating weight produced by a rectangular anode of width Wa. When current is passed the anode configuration regulates the time of metal deposition for different parts of the strip to effect uniform coating weight across the strip and eliminate the "edge effect". Preferably a single anode is used, and Wa is sufficient to accommodate variations in the pass line of the strip.
