1478391 Copolymers containing -CO 2 - units E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 8 Aug 1974 [9 Aug 1973 19 April 1974] 35041/74 Heading C3P A random copolymer of ethylene, methyl- or ethyl acrylate and from 0À0025-0À77 moles/100 gm. polymer of a monoalkyl ester of 1,4-butenedioic acid (i.e. maleic or fumaric acid) in which the alkyl group has 1-6 carbon atoms comprises 0À064-0À80 moles of (-CO 2 -) units per 100 gm. of copolymer, said copolymer having a melt index of 0À3-100 g./10 min. and being vulcanizable to form an elastomer having a brittle point of less than - 40‹ C. and an oil swell of less than 115%. The copolymer may be obtained by copolymerizing the monomers in presence of a free radical catalyst under pressure at an elevated temperature.
