1478181 Ring and traveller TEXTILE MOULDINGS Ltd 1 Aug 1974 34060/74 Heading DID A traveller formed of plastics material when rotating in use engages an upwardly and inwardly facing ring surface which causes the traveller to rise so that the traveller bottom engages the ring bottom and the yarn-engaging top traveller portion is held clear of the ring. As shown, Fig. 1, ring 11 comprises travellersupporting surface 18 which is formed as a frustum of a cone whose apex lies on the ring axis below the ring, and which has a semi-angle in the range of 2‹ to 15‹. The ring also comprises flange 16 pressed into holder 12, traveller-guiding surfaces 27, 28, and surface 19 substantially perpendicular to surface 18. Surfaces 18, 19 may be lubricated via passages. In use, surfaces 22, 24 of traveller 13 engage the ring, and the traveller forms an angle with a line, through the ring and parallel to the ring axes, greater than 24‹, e.g. 28‹. Alternatively, Fig. 2, the traveller has a wire portion 25 embedded in synthetic plastics portion 26 whose wider, curved part 24' engages curved ring surface 19'. The stationary ring may be supported in a ring recess, or by a flange extending radially inwardly from the ring holder, to prevent portion 25 contacting the ring. Alternatively, Fig. 3, surface 19" is wider than the top ring portion. The ratio of the height of the centre of gravity of the ring to the length of the ring may be greater than 0.5, e.g. may be 0.7.
